By Joyce Schwarz, blogging at hollywood2020.net about the new TV series FLASHFORWARD on ABC TV: (part one of a series of articles on this new show)
So have you seen the new TV show on ABC called "FLASH FORWARD"? The basic premise is that there was a blackout in the world for 2 minutes and 17 seconds and most people saw some kind of vision of their future. The question that Joyce Schwarz, best-selling author of THE VISION BOARD book (Harper Collins Publishing, Collins Design 2008) is asking is -- what is your vision?
"The TV show although fictional poses a fascinating challenge to viewers -- either they co-create their vision of their best possible life by embracing such tools as the ancient art of 'visioning' and designing vision boards OR they may end up being part of someone else's vision or even be "given" a vision for their future from some TV show website.
AND IN FACT that's exactly what the FLASHFORWARDEXPERIENCE.com offers viewers -- a game-like experience where you link your Facebook pages to FLASHFORWARD's FB application and it creates a vision of supposedly what 'you" saw during the 2 minutes and 17 seconds. The app itself is stunning looking and the results are well, kind of amazing. The only challenge, as Schwarz reminds us is that the TV show geeks (online creators of the FLASHFORWARDEXPERIENCE.COM ) are designing that 2 minutes and 17 seconds FOR YOU versus you co-creating your own future vision.
Here are some of the screenshots of the 'video' that FLASHFORWARDEXPERIENCE.com 'designed' on the fly using some kind of flash mash-up system when author Schwarz plugged in her Facebook account with flashforwardexperience.com
PRIVACY CONCERNS?? Wow I won't even go there-- I have just turned over my Facebook account to some TV show geeks or at least access to it. I suppose I can delete the app on my account. BUT quite frankly it's a lot of fun and a bit addictive. Every time I plugged it in -- to do it again -- have it pull pix and put them into a video for you -- I have to re-enter my info. (Does that make any sense? I'll explain it in a future post step by step if you wish). BUT anyway -- let's not even go anywhere near the privacy concerns right now!
SCREENGRABS FROM BEST-SELLING AUTHOR JOYCE SHWARZ USE OF THE FLASHFORWARDEXPERIENCE.com Let me just post my pix from the FLASHFORWARDEXPERIENCE.com so you get some idea of how it works-- remember these are screengrabs from a 2 minute and 17 second video that the Flashforwardexperience.com auto-creates from my facebook content that I have publicly posted.
THE MOSAIC COLLECTIVE:
HOLD ON BEFORE I POST MY OWN PIX -- here are some screenshots from the FLASH FORWARD Site called THE MOSAIC COLLECTIVE where the idea is to take the videos that you mash up or others that you make yourself and upload them or still pix to this site to create a user-generated collective of photos/images of what happened during the 2 minutes and 17 seconds
SO if I put all of these screengrabs together along with some other grabs I took from the Flashforwardexperience.com application that 'grabbed' my Facebook (with my permission of course what will I get?) Stay tuned.

Joyce Schwarz is the best-selling author of THE VISION BOARD: the secret to an extraordinary life. To see the book's website go to http://www.ihaeevision.org. In light of the new ABC TV show's premise that in a fictional world a black out happens and everyone is given a vision of 2 minutes and 17 seconds of their future, Schwarz suggests that you return to the ancient art of visioning and use such personal development tools as a Vision Board (see www.visionboard.info) to co-create your life versus leaving it to the fate of a TV show or the TV show's techies to mash-up your online profiles and just TELL YOU the outcome!
