By Joyce Schwarz, author THE VISION BOARD book, One of the joys of waking up in the middle of the night is some time I feel like I was meant to get up and get a glass of juice or water and watch TV at that particular hour. Last night was one of those times. I tuned in as MEET THE PRESS special Thanksgiving edition was having a rerun. And I was just amazed with the wisdom and wonder that was inspired by that show!
Even if you don't like the guests or find them controversial or don't agree on their politics or their opinions I believe you'll find the transcript fascinating! HERE ARE THE LINKS and here are some of the excerpts that touched me! Let me know what you enjoyed! TX JOYCE SCHWARZ
EXCERPTS WWW.visionboard.info liked:
****Pastor Warren (excerpts from some of his quotes on MEET THE PRESS THANKSGIVING SHOW -- see full transcript and video of the show by clicking on the links above in this blog.)
.....by the way, it's not an accident the word "miser" and "miserable" come from the same root word.
...... I would say the greatest need right now are the 146 million orphans in the world. There are 146 million kids growing up without mommies and daddies. That is anarchy waiting to happen. And whoever gets there first and loves them first will have their heart and devotion
PUBLIC/PRIVATE/FAITH SECTORS = 3 legged stool
.....they're talking about public/private partnership for ending poverty, for ending malaria, for, you know, all of these chronic global issues. And they say we need this partnership, but actually, they're missing the third leg of the stool. A one-legged stool will fall over, two-legged stool will fall over. There is the public sector, which is government and the NGOs, the nonprofits; there is the profit sector, which is business; and there is the faith sector.
EVEN TEACHING A MAN TO FISH IS NOT ENOUGH:,,,,,,,you've heard the phrase, "Don't give a man a fish, teach him to fish." Well, that's not even good enough. If you--I've discovered if you teach a man to fish, you create a village of fisherman; they all catch the same fish and they have a, a subsistence economy. You need to teach a man how to sell a fish. You need to teach him how to build a business. You need to teach to some build the nets and some builds the boats and, and create a free enterprise so that the, the society raises itself out of, out of just subsistence on a more complex economy.
PURPOSE OF INFLUENCE: why become famous?
.....in Psalms 72 we have Solomon's prayer for more influence. And when you read this prayer, it wounds like the most self-centered prayer you could imagine, because he says, "God, I want you to make me famous." He said, "I want you to spread the fame of my name through many countries. I want you to give me power. I want you to bless me." And then you read why Solomon prayed that. He says, "So that the king may support the widow and orphan, care for the sick, defend the defenseless, speak up for the oppressed."
WHAT IS YOUR PURPOSE? .....narrow life down to simple sentences, I think it's a very helpful thing. It sure adds clarity and it, it certainly relieves pressure.
.....studies have shown that probably 70 percent of Americans are in the wrong job. They're in a job that they hate, they're not wired to do.....
.....the greatest things in life are not things. Never give your life for money, because your net worth and your self-worth are not the same thing. Your value and your valuables are not the same thing. And who you are is much more important than what you do. And if you can stop and look at your life and say, "What do I love to do? What did God wire me to do? And what am I good at?" And a lot of times you don't even know it, but other people say, "You know what you're good at?" Then that's the direction you need to head.

How to Create Your Own Gratitude Shadow Box
Develop an attitude of gratitude starting with you -- you are worth it! Take a moment right now and look at yourself -- your hands, your feet, and your face -- with the same kind of admiration you might bestow on one of the most precious sculptures in the Louvre Museum in Paris
Think about this --you are irreplaceable, which makes you priceless.
Many of you may already have gratitude journals that you keep daily or write in weekly. Some of you are aware of the power of keeping a list of things you are grateful for, and some vision board creators even add their updated gratefulness lists to their current vision boards.
But there is great power in creating a gratitude board for your life and doing it along with your family. It's especially appropriate at this time of the year.
Great post-Thanksgiving weekend family activity!
So start now.
What better way to fight the doldrums of post-Thanksgiving weekend! Gather the family together for a few quiet hours and create a GRATITUDE SHADOW BOX, a fun variation on a classic vision board! (See a sample Gratitude Shadow box here as seen in THE VISION BOARD book by Joyce Schwarz, (box created by Renee Troy courtesy of Joyce Schwarz private collection).
Begin by locating an old shadowbox in your garage or one that you can find on sale at your local craft or picture frame store.
Here's how to create your family masterpiece in 5 easy steps:
1) Clean out the old shadowbox. Consider spray painting it with a metallic gold or silver color if it needs to be freshened up. If you want to get fancy, you can cut different fabric squares to fit the background of each section of the box. Consider velvet for one and gingham for another or use a bit of colored wrapping paper in another.
2) Gather up the goodies: see what you have from Thanksgiving dinner or that trip to the relatives. Go ahead and put that great pix of the Turkey in the center! Add a broach grandma gave you that lost its pin or include Grandpa's old tie-tack. Planning a holiday trip to Hawaii, then add a little pink drink umbrella! Did one of your daughter's hair barrette’s lose a rhinestone, add it in a square for her.
3) Be sure to spice it up with embellishments. Add the first holiday stamp to come in the mail. Place a dried flower from that table arrangement in a special corner. Consider cutting up old holiday cards you may find as you unpack the boxes from the attic. Did the baby get her first haircut? A lock of golden hair is a charming addition. Is Jane wearing lipstick for the first time this holiday season. Have her save that pink lip print forever on a dainty corner of a napkin
4) Let each family member arrange one of the squares in the shadowbox and join together to craft any extra sections
5) Last but not least, make a list of what your family is grateful for and post it on the back of the shadowbox along with the date and signatures. Always fun to look at year after year after year

Why is a vision board is key to your happiness today and tomorrow!
A new study by the Los Angeles Times shows today that Happiness is based on 50 percent genetics, 40 percent intention and 10 percent circumstances. Wow that's kind of amazing when most people say that they are happy or unhappy based on life's circumstances. That's where the creation of a Vision Board can really be key to your happiness today and tomorrow. Why?
A) By creating a Vision Board you release past conditioning and open your inner self to new opportunities -- like being happy.
B) Be sure to include Happiness as one of your 'intents' or 'intentions on your Vision Board. So many people just put stuff like Diamonds and Cars and Houses that many forget that peace of mind and happiness are PRICELESS.
C) Search for defining images -- images that 'resonate' happiness to you -- it might be a sunrise or a sunset or a picture of you on a mountain top. For me it's a picture of me in front of the Great Hall of China -- if I can get there from the housing projects of Cleveland -- I can get anywhere! Post these images on your Vision Board-- already have a board -- add these images with glue tape or even just a thumbtack.
D) Clone your Vision Board -- yes don't just post it in a back closet-- bring it out where you can see it and bed sure to make copies of it that you can use as digital screensavers and maybe even on a keychain clasp. One of my clients even uses her Vision Board as the 'skin' for her laptop!
E) Do things that help you be happy -- you know be a kid again -- go ahead and have an ice cream cone, skip down the street , go swing in the park, wear your goofy color socks or even mismatched socks -- after all if it makes you happy and counters any bad genes why not!
Consider making a happiness board! It combines the principles of just letting go and being happy no matter what is happening in your life and the world with the value of creating a vision board. A happiness board should make you laugh or chuckle or smile. It can have goofy stuff on it or it can just have a picture that you know is a defining image of what you want to co-create in your life --Happiness of course!

Okay now's the surprise-- all vision boards are really green and eco-friendly because they are really recycling magazines One of the most eco-friendly ways to celebrate Earth Day with your family, office mates and school class is to create a Vision Board.
REMIX: RECYCLING MAGAZINES & OTHER PRINT MATERIALS
Be assured by creating Vision Boards using images from old magazines and other printed material such as direct mail flyers, invitations, posters, wallpaper and even newspaper clippings, you ARE RECYCLING! There are several regional and national programs organized just to recycle magazines (more on those later, especially the ones from the MPA (Magazine Publishers Assn) and the City of New York.
SO TO START CREATING AN ECO-FRIENDLY VISION BOARD:
A) Gather old magazines, newspapers, printed materials including greeting cards, cartoons from newspapers, grocery circulars and catalogs in a large basket.
B) Be sure if you purchase any new background paper or materials that they are recycled too. Recycled posterboard is available but you may want to create your board using such eco-friendly materials as flax or organic cotton fabrics or even the back of old paintings or posters you already have on your wall--continuing the recycling circle.
C) Gather up found objects, paperclips, broken jewelry, ribbons from a birthday party or wedding shower, stamps and stickers from envelopes (you can re-attach with a glue stick later)
D) Be sure any paints or marker pens you use are also eco-friendly. In fact considering buying a whole pack of these and sharing them with your neighbors so that they can create an eco-friendly board too!
Or use natural materials. I've seen vision boards created with charcoal, with waters colored by natural herbs & flowers and almost water-painted onto the board.
Or even consider painting (with eco-friendly paints) a large bolder or old board you find near your garage
E) Consider making your own recycled hand-made paper from old paper --the back of old posters, the back of leftover wallpaper or even on the back of an old awning or window shade!
F) If you're framing your board, be sure to recycle an old frame that you have in your house or garage or to pick one up at a flea market or thrift store in your neighborhood.
I recycle everything I can.
I am recycling my kitchen scraps too now.
I turn off the water when I brush my teeth.
I have a filter for my tap water.
I am simplifying my life.
I buy only what I absolutely need to live.
I make my footsteps on earth as light as they can be.
I recycle for others when I see an opportunity.
I make sure what I buy is carbon-neutral.
Pictures for your eco-board.
One of the fun ways to get the right pictures for your eco board is to make a list of those pix you'd like to see on the board such as: a) a home garden you are planting b) a method of composting you are starting in your group/family c) Past pictures of your family in the outdoors -- climbing or hiking or enjoying the earth at places you've visited --yes, even if they are near and part of your home town area. They don't have to be at an exotic location
TRAVEL -- another option is to gather some travel brochures at your local travel agency or from the travel section of your newspaper or favorite website and put those on the board planning on where you'd like to visit that IS eco-friendly
G) Gather the raw materials together. Spread out an old blanket or tablecloth to cover the creation area (a table or an area of a floor or even do it outside on your patio).
H) Begin by making a list with your group of the Eco affirmations they would like to keep in the next year and for the rest of their lives!

Veteran's Day, November 11 is the ideal time to honor any active military in your family or neighborhood with a Gratitude Vision Board and to salute the fallen and veterans of past service with a Tribute Board.
Here are five simple stept to creating a Tribute Board for the fallen or for those veterans who served in the past:
1) Take a moment with your family or just your own memories to remember the key events and experiences in the Veteran's life that were not military related. Remember the fun things he or she did -- like play softball or make a great apple pie. Jot down a couple of those things.
2) Gather some pictures of the Veteran -- in active duty clothing or if that if you're not ready to picture the veteran in uniform pick a favorite pix from his/her past that shows their character.
3) Get pictures of symbols and or logos that show a bit more about the person's life -- maybe the company they worked for or the division of the military service they served in ie Marines, Air Force, Army, Navy.
4) If you're ready emotionally add a few favorite pictures from the military person's departure -- whether it was to overseas post or maybe even the final tribute if you feel positive when looking at those pictures. Note, you have to be ready. I was going to make a tribute for my dad last year and I wasn't ready until this year almost a year after his military funeral. Now I cherish some of the pictures we took the Ohio Cemetary and apprecfiate the military who were involved in the ceremony. And of course hearing the TAPS music that he always loved " Days is Done Gone the Sun...so many times my dad would look at the sunset and say that.. but every morning he was ready for Reveille too!
5) Add some key words that remind you of your veteran -- and if you're not ready to for words just add a favorite quote or a phrase that comes to mind. You can always update this Tribute Board later.
WORKING WITH ACTIVE MILITARY FAMILIES
If you're working with an active military family to honor one of their active soldiers, then you may want to include some fun pix that person has sent via email or family pix showing the military person playing pool or riding his or her motorcycle or some kind of action activities since those are often the best memories we have of the person.
You can make your board as personal as you want or it can just be symbolic with pictures you're reacy to share with those who will see it if you want to display it in your office or home. Don't force yourself to add any pictures that don't bring a smile to your face. Okay there may be a tear in your eye but remember the purpose is to bring Tribute and to offer Gratitude for their service.
If you're comfortable adding some key words like PEACE PLEASE or a line from a prayer, now's the time to do it. You can type out the prayer in script on your computer or have a family member with great penmanship or calligraphy actually artfully design it for you to add to your board.
Don't forget Tribute is a project in progress...you can begin with a few pictures and add more later.
And you can always update your board with pictures from the veteran when she or he returns to your fold!
Blogger Joyce Schwarz, www.visionboard.info and best-selling author of THE VISION BOARD book: the secret to an extraordinary life, created this Tribute Vision Board for her dad to honor him with some pictures from his final tribute and some fun lifetime pix that show some of his favorite things. When creating your Veteran's Day Gratitude or Tribute Board make sure it's something that will make you smile and add inspiration to your life.
So you may want to start slowly with just a few pictures or a few key words and then add more as you become ready to honor the Veterans in your life!
