HOW TO MAKE A MEMORIAL DAY VISION BOARD By Joyce Schwarz, author, THE VISION BOARD book,www.ihaveavision.org (to see a free chapter go to: http;//tinyurl.com/seeinsidebook)

MEMORIAL DAY is the ideal time to honor any active military in your family or neighborhood with a Gratitude Vision Board and to salute the fallen and veterans of past service with a Tribute Board.

Here are five simple steps to creating a Tribute Board for the fallen or for those veterans who served in the past:

1) Ma
Take a moment with your family or just your own memories
to remember the key events and experiences in the Veteran's life that were not military related. Remember the fun things he or she did -- like play softball or make a great apple pie. Jot down a couple of those things. NOTE: if you're doing this as a family make it a group visioning process. And add a sense of ritual to the experience too. If the Veteran that you're honoring liked to play softball then go ahead and take the family to the park and play softball in his or her tribute BEFORE you make the vision board.

The whole concept in sharing your vision and honoring and creating a Gratitude or Tribute vision board is to make the experience an active one that benefits everyone involved. If the veteran loved Chocolate ice cream - make sure you have some on hand to serve on completion of the board and set a dish out in his or her honor!

2) Mc Md

Gather some pictures of the Veteran --
in active duty clothing or if that if you're not ready to picture the veteran in uniform pick a favorite pix from his/her past that shows their character.

3) Get pictures of symbols and or logos that show a bit more about the person's life -- maybe the company they worked for or the division of the military service they served in ie Marines, Air Force, Army, Navy. Medals

4) If you're ready emotionally add a few favorite pictures from the military person's departure --

Journalwhether it was to overseas post or maybe even the final tribute if you feel positive when looking at those pictures.

Note, you have to be ready. I was going to make a tribute for my dad shortly after he passed, but I wasn't ready to create one until last fall for Veteran's Day honor.

And now this Memorial Day I decided to jazz up the Tribute Board and add some fun embellishments so that the Tribute board would be more interesting to look at so yes, I just updated my Veteran's Day board for Memorial day. Remember every vision board should be a work-in-progress. There is nothing static about showing Gratitude or giving TRIBUTE

In creating the new Tribute Vision Board for Memorial day ,I cherish some of the pictures we took the Ohio Cemetary and apprecfiate the military who were involved in the ceremony.

And of course hearing the TAPS music that he always loved " Days is Done Gone the Sun...so many times my dad would look at the sunset and say that.. but every morning he was ready for Reveille too!

5) Add some key words that remind you of your veteran--

Words                                                                                        and if you're not ready to for words just add a favorite quote or a phrase that comes to mind. You can always update this Tribute Board later. For example for my Memorial Day tribute to my dad, I added a great quote from Maya Angelou but stayed with the simple phrase TAPS FOR FRANK. I let the pictures do the talking in this Tribute board.

WORKING WITH ACTIVE MILITARY FAMILIES Military

If you're working with an active military family to honor one of their active soldiers, then you may want to include some fun pix that person has sent via email or family pix showing the military person playing pool or riding his or her motorcycle or some kind of action activities since those are often the best memories we have of the person.

You can make your board as personal as you want or it can just be symbolic with pictures you're reacy to share with those who will see it if you want to display it in your office or home.

Don't force yourself to add any pictures that don't bring a smile to your face. Okay there may be a tear in your eye but remember the purpose is to bring Tribute and to offer Gratitude for their service.

If you're comfortable adding some key words like PEACE PLEASE or a line from a prayer, now's the time to do it. You can type out the prayer in script on your computer or have a family member with great penmanship or calligraphy actually artfully design it for you to add to your board.

Peacepleae

Don't forget Tribute is a project in progress...you can begin with a few pictures and add more later.

And you can always update your board with pictures from the veteran when she or he returns to your fold!

Blogger Joyce Schwarz, www.visionboard.info and best-selling author of THE VISION BOARD book: the secret to an extraordinary life, created this Tribute Vision Board for her dad to honor him with some pictures from his final tribute and some fun lifetime pix that show some of his favorite things.\

When creating your Memorial Day Gratitude or Tribute Board make sure it's something that you will cherish and want to look at again. Don't create something so somber that you want to throw it in the back of the closet.

Embellishments help, for example I added lots of colorful stars and this time even cut out the outline of my dad playing softball, one of my childhood memories - seeing him pitch a no-hitter!

Five Steps to Make a Mother's Day Vision Board for Mother's Day 2016..by Joyce Schwarz, bestselling author THE VISION BOARD book

Would you like to honor your mom or grandma
or even your great-grandmother today or this week
or anytime of the year!

Then follow these 5 steps from best-selling author Joyce Schwarz,
The Vision Board: The Secret to an Extraordinary Life
from Harper Collins Publishing, Collins Design.

FIVE STEPS TO CREATING A MOTHER'S DAY VISION BOARD!

1) Gather together some pictures of you and your mom
together throughout the years either real photographs from old albums that are falling apart
or scan some photos that you may have framed already.

Giftbox2 Giftboxlid1 You can use the inside top lid of a gift box as a 'shadow box' to make your Mother's Day Vision Board says Joyce Schwarz, author THE VISION BOARD the secret to an extraordinary life, www.visionboard.info for free newsletter.

2) Make sure you have the following on hand -- a) a posterboard -- if you don't have one you can use a bulletin board or a corkboard
or the inside lid of a box that may have held the robe you game mom for Mother's day!
The inside lid of a nice box --
becomes almost like a Shadow Box for the Vision Board creation.
You can also use an old shadow box you may have on hand.
  Box Box2
Use the box that you gave mom her robe in to create a Mother's Day Vision Board to honor all the moms in your family -- aunt, cousins, mom, grandma and even great-grandma...www.visionboard.info

  Shadowbox

3) You can do this with mom or grandma and your kids too. Sit down with some colored markers or crayons and do it together.

Brainstorm some of the fun times you've had together with mom --here are some ideas a) going out to dinner on mother's day -- if you're going out today be sure to take a picture of mom with your family or you! Mom out gardening, mom doing some of her favorite things -- playng the piano, holding you as a baby or even finishing running her first marathon.
Tissuepaper

4) Paste the pictures on some colorful paper you line the inside of the box with -- maybe the colored tissue paper (pink or green or yellow that you wrapped that robe with. You can use tape or glue to hold the paper in place.

If you want double up the adhesive tape so that it sticks without seeing the bits of tape. OR if you don't have tape make some glue. OR if you don't have either mix a tiny bit of flour and water together and it will form some glue for you just be careful to use just a dot of it so that it doesn't show through. BUT If it does -- don't worry you can cover that with a sticker or a little design from your kids or you. Or another picture.

Giftwinebox Hgtvbox Mother2 Mother1
You can use any box -- see the wine box at the left it would make a nice Mother's Day Shadow box once the wine is consumed at dinner or put on a shelf or wine cellar.

See the HGTV box -- that is symbolic -- you can cut out pictures and put in flowers from the day or ribbons or whatever. And whatif you don't have any pix of mom -- well, consider doing a real nature-themed Mother's Day Vision Board with pictures of wild animals and their children like these Polar Bears and elephants. So much fun!

5) Pick a theme for your Mother's Day Vision Board: here are some possibilities: a) gratitude-- what are you thanking your mom for a) her guidance b) her support c) her understanding or d) just being there when no one else was.

a) But what if you and your mom don't get along perfectly --
don't worry most moms and daughters or sons aren't like the LEAVE IT TO BEAVER TV families of the 20th century.

b) If you feel more comfortable just honor your mom's heritage and her life -- include pictures of her mother and grandmother. a copy of a map of the country where her family is from such as Mexico or France or Hungary. And include pictures of your mom throughout the years -- a picture (or copy of one when she was a kid) or a copy of a wedding picutre or a copy of a picture of her holding her first grandchild etc.

PERFECT FOR NURSING HOME OR ASSISTED LIVING:

This kind of remembrance Vision Board is ideal for moms who are in the hospital or a rest home or in assisted living where her roommates and visitors and nurses and attendants can see mom in her prime.
