Joyce Schwarz served as the keynote speaker, Pepperdine MBA Program, fall, 2008
This fall, it was my honor to get booked to give presentations at the new student orientations for the prestigious Pepperdine Graziano MBA program in Malibu, California.
During my presentation to the two different groups of students I mentioned the power of creating a vision board as one of the ways to get harness that 'extra degree' of momentum to carry you from orientation through the first 100 days of your first term.
What's a vision board & why for orientation? A vision board is a visual map that represents your vision for success. It's ideal to include Vision Board creation and info about visioning in your college orientation programs because so much of what the students are facing are left brain challenges.
Visioning and Vision Boards Sharpen Right Brain Skills
Even before they hit campus prospective students are concerned about left brain issues such as times, dates, schedules, finances and other issues that involve their analytical capabilities. Yet, scientists and business leaders are proving that the key to success in this changing economy is flexibiilty and the ability to combine both left and right brain skills.
"Vision Boards are being used for training and economic development by such major organizations as the U.N., VISTA and even the World Bank, because they serve as guides to creating new paths to resolve old social and life issues," explains The Vision Board author Schwarz.
Visioning/Vision Boards Great for Revamping Orientation to meet 21st Century Challenges:
"Vision boards come in all sizes and shapes-- you no longer have to just create them with paper and glue and poster boards. There are amazing digital versions including software that can be customized for students and faculty to use as screensavers on their laptops and even port to their mobiles", Schwarz explains.
